MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES:
10-10-10 CHALLENGE!
Our kids have raised $265 for Pure Water, Pure Love, in just over 3 months! We got the check ready to mail today. This money came from the kids' Sunday School offerings (only 7 kids most days!), our spare change, and the morning offerings not designated as tithes. We're so proud!
I have a challenge for all you PMS Sisters! Ben's 10-10-10 idea just won't go away. Ten people, ten dollars, ten weeks; that's a thousand dollars! Ten churches or groups participating; that's a whopping TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!
Here's the challenge, ladies: Set aside $10 a week for 10 weeks, starting Feb 1. Set up a jar or container, and throw in a ten each week. If $10 is a hardship, find a partner, and donate $5 each. Do whatever you can afford; all I'm asking is your willingness to participate! You can begin immediately to get a jumpstart. At the end of the 10 weeks, deposit the money into your checking account, and send a check to the address below. Recruit your family members and churches. See if you can be the starting point for a 10-10-10 in YOUR community!
We'll all do this, and track our progress, starting in February. If Shawn and I each give $10, and Ben and Hannah are each willing to donate their $5 allowances, that's 3 tens. All we have to do is recruit 7 more participants!
If you are willing to take part in a 10-10-10 for Pure Water, Pure Love, please leave a comment (click here) telling us of your plans. Then keep us up-to-date each week, and we'll track our progress here. If 10 of you Sisters will help, that's a thousand dollars! If each of you recruit your family and friends . . . WOW!

At the end of 10 weeks,
Send a check made out to WMU, clearly marked for Pure Water, Pure Love, to:

Here is a prayer request from our PMS Sister Kitty Z. Please ask God to bless this family as they go about His business, and pray about making this a PMS project in the future!
My Brother-in-law and his family are Missionaries in Bolivia. Kurt and Cynthia Zimmerman and four of their five children will be traveling back to Bolivia Jan.6, 2008. Their oldest son David is now attending Asbury College. Sons Timothy(16),Luke(7),Joshua(5)and only daughter Jenny(13) all will return with their parents to Bolivia. They are great kids and I had the honor of getting to know them for the 6 months they were here in the U.S. Please pray for this family as they continue to carry God's word to the people of Bolivia.
HOW GOD BROUGHT US TO
PURE WATER, PURE LOVE:
My daughter Hannah and I were deeply touched by a fact we learned in our Sunday School Class: every 8 seconds, a child dies from drinking impure water.
I sensed an opportunity to teach her that when we are presented with an opportunity to help or serve, we should just jump right in!
So we've asked our church to donate the children's Sunday School offerings, and the morning service offering (except tithes) to a fund that provides water filter systems in places where missionaries and their families are working. This benefits the people who live in those areas; they also have access to the clean water.
It's called PURE WATER, PURE LOVE, and it's administered by the Southern Baptist Convention WMU. We're also gathering spare change. If you'd like more information, contact me (either thru email or the "contact us" page); I can direct you to the website, or you can join our effort. Here are my suggestions if you'd like to help:
1. Ask your church to donate the children's Sunday School offerings, if they aren't already designated. We've decorated a bucket to hold the money. Let's make it fun and get those kids involved early!
2. Collect spare change at home; and ask others to do so; you can even supply them with a container and ask them to bring it to you when it's full. I'll be taking our change to one of those machines that counts it; check out Coinstar online to find a machine near you.
3. Ask your church for a love offering to contribute to this fund.
4. Donate money you save by using coupons (whoa, that's a good one; I just thought of it)!
5. When your children get paid for chores, ask them to donate all or part of the money. Or let them have a yard sale (this benefits YOU; they'll have to clean out their toyboxes!) You can also participate in a yard sale (we all need to declutter. . . I'll share more about this in the mundane daily drudgery - homework - section haha!).
From a special PMSister in Alabama, here's another good one: use an empty water bottle (like a gallon jug, or even better, those cool blue 5-gallon bottles) to collect your spare change. I love it that the container itself can serve as a reminder of the reason for collecting. Thanks, Lou Ann!
These are just a few ideas. . . oh, yeah, Ben's 10 dollar idea: If 10 people (or 10 churches) would give 10 dollars 10 times, you'd have a thousand dollars!!!! Pledge yourself to $10 a week (or 5 or 2, whatever you can afford) and ask your church or 10 friends to do the same. . . math is cool when you use it this way!
I'll let you know when I get ready to send money to PURE WATER, PURE LOVE. If you feel led to participate in this ministry, or if you'd like more information, please email or post a comment. Feel free to invite your church to participate!
